Messi scored his second goal of the match in the 72nd minute, when Taylor and Martinez organized a counterattack that left Messi in position to volley the ball from close range, beating Orlando goalkeeper Pedro Gallese. This it was Messi's fifth goal in three games, after also scoring against Cruz Azul and Atlanta United in the group stage of the tournament.
A possible second goal by Araujo in stoppage time was overturned by offside after a video-assisted review.
With this victory, Inter Miami now prepares to face FC Dallas in the knockout stages, after their 2-1 victory against Mazatlan Mexico.
