Dalai Lama apologizes after asking a boy to 'suck' his tongue
The Dalai Lama apologized after a video surfaced showing him. kissing a child on the mouth and asking him to "suck his tongue" at an event in northern India.
In a statement Monday, the Dalai Lama's office said it "would like to apologize to the child and his family, as well as to his many friends throughout the world, for the pain his words may have caused," adding that "regrets" the incident.
"His Holiness often mocks people he meets in innocent ways. and funny, even in public and in front of the camera," reads the communiqué.
In the video, the boy is seen approaching the Dalai Lama and asking, "Can I give you a hug?"
The 87-year-old spiritual leader invites the boy to the stage, his cheek and says, "Here first," which causes the child to hug and cuddle him. Kiss.

Then the Dalai Lama purses his lips and says, "I think I'm finally here. too." Then he tucks the child's chin in and kisses him on the mouth.
"And suck my tongue," he said after a few seconds sticking out his tongue.
The identity of the child is unknown. He was at an event with the M3M Foundation, the philanthropic arm of Indian real estate company M3M Group, based in Dharamshala, India, where the Dalai Lama lives in permanent exile.
"Some news reports refer to Tibetan culture in relation to The display of the language, but this video is certainly not about any Cultural expression, and even if it were, such cultural expression is not acceptable," the statement continues.
He added: "The world expects religious leaders to stand up and lead. against child exploitation and abuse through their actions, and words."
